JESSOPS CUP - WELL DONE MARK!

Tuesday, 15 December 2009 17:28

The Jessops cup was hosted once again by the Sandown Shanklin & District Camera Club on the 8th December 2009 and judged by Rosie Armes FRPS.

Seven clubs took part submitting 10 printed images each.

A good evening was had by all, and we are pleased to announce that Wightbalance achieved overall second place behind SS&DCC for the second year running, with Niton & District Camera Club in 3rd place.

Of the 16 images shortlisted for further consideration, 4 were from Wightbalance, "The Refectory" and "Good Days Fishing" by Gavin Chadwick, "Wait For Me" by Anne Lovelock and "Dead Calm" by Mark Thirlwell.

In the final judging, maximum marks were scored only by Eric Mitchell from SS&DCC for "Yarmouth" and our own Mark with "Dead Calm".

We were especially pleased as this was the first time that Mark had ever entered a photographic competition.

Final scores were: SS&DCC 86,   Wightbalance 84.5,   Isle of Wight Photographic Society 82,   Niton & District Camera Club 81.5,   IWDIG 81,   Focus Ryde Imaging Group 76 and East Wight Photography Group 74

Our thanks go to our friends at SS&DCC for hosting a very pleasant evening, and to Rosie for her informative and constructive judging.

Once again, well done Mark, we are very proud of you - keep them coming!

WELL DONE GAVIN!

Great news! Our very own Gavin Robert Chadwick has won the very first competition he has ever entered, and is the proud winner of the ALL ISLAND PRINT OF THE YEAR.

What an amazing feat that is for someone who began his photographic career only 11 months ago, and has been a WB member for just 8 months.

His beautiful image of the Refectory at Quarr Abbey was the culmination of many weeks of discussions with the Monks to allow William and himself to enter the inner sanctum of the Monastery. What a fantastic reward that turned out to be!

Gavin feels the support and encouragement from his many friends at Wightbalance has been a great factor in his success today.

As thanks to the Monks at Quarr Abbey, he intends to donate a limited edition run of the image for them to sell in support of their restoration fund.

We must not forget all the other Wightbalance members who achieved short listing in both categories: Brian, William & Anne.

Our congratulations also go to Peter Lake of IWDIG who won the Monochrome Print section.
